Notes in Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM are great to use for a number of reasons.
Some of them are:

  • Easy 1-click creation from social pane (in comparison to adding a new activity)
  • Time-stamped along with owner information
  • Available across all entities

However there is one significant draw-back in using notes. Notes do not roll-over to Account, Contact or opportunity record on lead qualification. So basically if you are in an opportunity record then you need to navigate to the now qualified / closed lead record.. Open the record, click on the Notes tab in social plane, in order to see the notes that were created.

In comparison to notes, activities roll-over to account, contact and opportunity record on lead qualification. This has been the number one reason that in the past, we have been recommending Customers to use activities instead of notes… However this is about to change now…
